Hayes was born prematurely in Wyandotte, Michigan,〔http://amyhayes.com〕 just a few miles from Detroit.〔http://www.travelmath.com/drive-distance/from/Wyandotte,+MI/to/Detroit,+MI〕 Her father Morris was a broadcaster for a local radio station and The Union Chairman for General Motors Saturn Division in Troy, Michigan. Her mother, Freda worked hard sewing car seats for a living. Amy graduated from Specs Howard School of Media Arts in Southfield, Michigan in 1996 with a degree in Radio & Television. In High School she was a left handed short stop and third baseman making the All Star team most seasons.〔http://amyhayes.com〕 She landed her first big spokesperson/modeling job as Detroit’s Miss Autorama in 1993.
